FILTHY (2017)

ABOUT THE FILM

Some things can’t be washed away.

It is a coming of age story of a subtle seventeen-year old Lena. In love for the first time, Lena longs for freedom and adventure. Her magic world is shattered instantly when her teacher Robo, whom all her classmates have a crush on, rapes her. Instead of sharing her trauma Lena remains silent, keeping it a secret even from her best friend. Feelings of guilt, shame and fear that nobody will believe her drive her to attempt suicide. While her family is in shock, Lena ends up in psychiatric ward.

There she discovers she is not alone in her experience. After her release, Lena decides to break her silence and take action. The anger she feels is no longer directed towards herself. She refuses to be the victim anymore. However she realizes it is too late to seek punishment for the perpetrator. In order to liberate herself, she must confront Robo and make him confess.

This fiction debut and the graduate film of FAMU is directed by Tereza Nvotová.

The project is realised in the co-production of Radio and Television of Slovakia (SK), moloko Film (CZ), FAMU (CZ), Magiclab (CZ) and Sleepwalker (CZ). The realisation was supported by Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Czech Film Fund, Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and Bratislava Self-Governing Region. The partner of the film is HBO Europe.
